It's common knowledge and fact that officials favour the so called more fancied teams (Barca -v- Atletico last week a great example), but you'd have to ask them why this is the case, as I've never really worked out why it happens.

Seeing as it's been happening since the beginning of time though, not sure why it bothers people so much still.

Frustrating, but Christ I'm used to it and expect it now so water off a ducks back.

I'm using ref to describe both ref's and linesmen. It doesn't matter. They are both called on to make marginal decisions like this.

In this case the linesman is having to make some close calls. I guarantee you, no linesman on earth would in those split seconds with no replay tell you that they are 100% certain that they got that decision right.

It's impossible for humans to be that accurate. That's why I'm interested in what influences their decisions.

It doesn't matter whether they were proven right in a tv replay after the fact, that doesn't tell us anything other than they gambled and called it right. The point I'm making is that such decisions are impossible to call correctly with complete certainty. That's the issue. And it's why they will bring in video technology to help because there's so much money at stake now.

As it stands, I accept the ruling, not because the ref got it right on this occasion. But because the ref is human and getting things wrong is part of the game of football at the moment. There's no way around it so I just accept that that's how it is.

Nutsin, we have Byram but naturally he's fucking injured.
Also we have Obiang who is a very good player and perfect for sheilding the back 4 but for some reason Billic won't play him and is lately prefering the gung ho approach with wing backs and no def mid which is why imho we are looking vunerable and conceeding too many goals.

I think I'm right in saying we need MU to win the FA Cup and finish 5th. That way we get a Europa spot......or come fifth, of course.

NS, must admit it seemed more obvious last night but less so in a YouTube replay clip. In the replay between 43-44 secs when the ball is played to Fellaini. It is a very close call. He could well have been onside - but it's the sort of call I feel would have gone against us. I don't have use of the BBC 'S graphics dept to prove it one way or the other.

Feeling down today. I'm still gutted from last nights performance...

Looking back at last night's game it's apparent we need a right back, we should sell Valencia and Need Collins back in defense. Seems every game we're conceding 2 goals or more. We can't handle pressure either, whenever we play a team that plays a high pressing game we end up making a mistake or two at the back which seems to always cost us..

It's been a fantastic season so far but the cup was there for the taking this year, last nights game had the two best teams left in the competition... I expect Man U will go on and win it now....fucking shame we didn't show up last night!

Why after a defeat does everybody feel the need to rip apart the players, tactics and minutiae of every move?

We haven't been beaten at home since August and now every single thing needs to be put under the microscope.

The fact is, i don't know why, but we didn't turn up for this game, they outplayed us.

The one thing we can all agree on, is we are all gutted

Haven't read back but, the difference in composure between Valencia and Rashford was disturbing.

Valencia, early in the game, in on De Gea and scuffs a shot straight at him from 15 yards. Didn't warm DG's fingers.

Rashford, after the Antonio mispass, has to get around 1 defender and then curls the ball into the top corner for the first goal.

`So if ref's are giving decisions that are so close to call, they are obviously guessing`.

It was the lino's not the ref's call last night for both the Fellani and the Kouyate decision...

a) Fellani... proven he was onside... lino kept his flag down... correct decision

b) Kouyate... proven he was offside... lino put his flag up... correct decision.

Now you can say Ohhhhh we was due some luck it's a fucking conspiracy so both of those decisions should have gone our way ... yeah by all means crack on with that and have a bleat up... but the truth of the fact is that the decisions were correct. Fellani was onside... and Kouyate was offiside

It's not hard to understand, seriously.

We have the benefit of replays, the ref doesnt. So if ref's are giving decisions that are so close to call, they are obviously guessing.

Which is fine, they are only human. They are going to get some things right and some wrong when they are guessing.

The issue for me is that the bigger the team or the more your team complains about these things, the more influence you have over these marginal decisions.

We obviously are not doing our part to psychologically get in the heads of these ref's in the way that some of the other teams do. Thats why Fergie, Mouhrinho and Wenger always moan, and why ref's get surrounded by their players. It influences the ref's eventually.

Mouh even made it so one ref left the game after death threats!. They're not machines, they are human being. They can be psyched out.

Kouyate was offside, but it's further prove that things DON'T even out over a season. We was due a bit of luck but it wasn't forthcoming.

If I were to feel aggrieved it would be the penalty for sure. Even the commentator, when he first saw said never a penalty, but when he saw the replay sounded a lot less sure and said Payet would have never got to the ball, changing his tune.

But again, time to move on, Leicester have to lose sometime and we now have extra incentive to beat these guys in the last game, hopefully with Europe as the spoils.

Absolutely gutted.

We really didn't turn up, and man u did their job very well. I can't complain, as the better team won, but that hurt, especially knowing damn well we were genuinely robbed up at Old Trafford.

I hope Everton smash them and Palace or Watford go on to win.

Re: West Ham v Man Utd - Official Match Thread 1-2 FT
Guys, Threesixty isn't claiming he wasn't offside. Kouyate was offside but it was marginal. Bits of him was offside. It wasn't like Costa 's goal v Norwich or Terry 's equaliser v Everton when there was a gap between the last defender & the goal scorer. There was no obvious 'daylight' (which I know is no longer part of the rules). Bits of Kouyate was offside but a large portion of him was level.

I believe that Fellaini was more offside for Man U's 2nd goal but that wasn't spotted.

Threesixty's point is pretty much summed up by those two decisions. Both players offside. One is seen by the officials & the other isn't.
